London detective Harry Clayton is a luckless gambler, whose habit has caused his barrister wife Anna to leave him, with their young daughter Daisy. Harry owes huge sums to casino owner Freddie Lau but, after a one-night stand with the mysterious Eve, who leaves him with a bangle he cannot remove, his fortunes change for the better. However Freddie is murdered, along with stripper Kayleigh Fenchurch and Harry discovers that Freddie stole Kayleigh from sacked croupier Kevin Grey, who now works for Freddie's daughter Lily-Anne. After joining Anna at the hospital when Daisy has an accident Harry again meets Eve, who tells him that the bangle was intended for another man but will bring him excessive luck - which he will need when, as a novice speedboat pilot, he and colleague Suri pursue Grey on the Thames. Though Grey escapes Harry is hailed a hero for rescuing his colleagues from the river - by all except Superintendent Winter, suspicious of Harry's connection to Freddie. Harry traces a plane hired by Lily-Anne for Grey's supposed escape which is full of money, though Lily-Anne denies any crime. Then through Harry's wheeler-dealer brother Rich Harry meets a forger of passports who leads him to arresting Grey, though he is taken aback when Anna proves to be defending Grey on the murder charges. Harry once more encounters Eve, who saves him from a gunman and tells him he must use his lucky bracelet for the general good, not personal gain. Back home Harry works out that every good thing the bracelet brings him seems to be counter-balanced by something bad, especially when a colleague collapses after Harry has done a good deed for a woman at his Gamblers Anonymous group.. Finding it impossible to remove the bracelet and having learned of its slightly sinister history Harry confronts Eve, who says she purposely gave it him as part of her plan to avenge her mother's death. Following the death of colleague Ben for which his mother and Winters both blame Harry, Suri is given compassionate leaving, discovering possible fraud at Lau's casino whilst Kevin Grey kills himself in custody. Harry is reluctantly teamed with caustic Steve Orwell to investigate diamond robberies at Hatton Garden but when they confront the robbers Harry gets a shock. Written by don @ minifie-1

Kate Olsen, who was investigating Vincent Lermontov, the businessman who killed himself, is abducted from her office by Becker, the sinister Russian who was stalking Harry. Put in charge of the investigation to locate her Harry discovers that Lermontov once wore the bracelet Eve gave him, a fact also noticed by Lermontov's son Paul. Escaping an attempt to kill them Suri and Harry find a link with the Russian mafia and manage to save Kate. However Harry is taken prisoner by Becker and finds he is not the only captive. Eve manages to overpower and kill Becker, allowing her and Harry to escape. Meanwhile gambling club owner Caleb Pursey is shot dead on his own premises and the killer is identified as gambling addict Tim Larson. Whilst Suri links a man at Larson's workplace to Lily-Anne's suspected money laundering scheme Harry tracks Larson down at an underground gaming den. He believes Larson was heavily in debt to Lily-Anne, who waived the debt provided he killed rival club owner Pursey. After police raid the Green Dragon and arrest Lily-Anne Harry steals evidence to prove his theory that she pressurized Larson to kill her rival. After Suri has told him about the plan to discredit him and quizzed him about Eve Harry investigates the killing of teenager Luke Bangura, whose mutilated body is found in a car park due for demolition. The mayor's office puts out a story of African ritual killings but, on learning that Luke was going to a clinic to give blood, he believes he was a victim of an illegal organ trade, involving Deputy Mayor Frierson, a former policeman who seemingly blocked the investigation into the murder of Eve's mother Maria. Suri goes undercover at the clinic to trap Frierson but is only partially successful. At the same time Anna, taking a mentoring role at the prison where Kevin Grey died, is told that his death was ordered by the same man Eve believes killed her mother. Written by don @ minifie-1

Suri and Harry interview Anton, a dying man who tells them he was fleeing from Golding, the man who was involved in the deaths of Eve's mother and Kevin Grey. They discover that Anton, real name Tony. and his partner Jed befriended wealthy foreign students and then stole their credit cards. With Jed also dead Harry sees a link with Russian student Sasha Terekhova, suspecting that her father hired Golding to kill the boys but Sasha is not forthcoming and afterwards Harry and Suri survive another attempt on their lives in which Suri is injured. Meanwhile Winter begins to suspect that Frierson may be corrupt and refuses to sack Harry, leading Frierson to approach the envious Orwell. Anna tells Harry of her discovery but he warns her not to get involved, especially as she is now dating prison governor Julian. Written by don @ minifie-1

Harry's brother Rich wakes up, covered in blood, to find his girlfriend Barbara shot dead with one of his antique guns. Though ordered off the case Harry, helped by Eve, determines to prove that he has been framed and finds a connection to Sasha's minder Collins. Confronting Collins Harry obtains evidence of his guilt but, with Suri now beginning to believe that may have been involved in Lau's murder, he is himself framed for another murder. Charged with Becker's murder Harry is unable to explain about his time as Becker's prisoner and escape with Eve and he is remanded in jail with Rich, where he learns the extent to which some of the convicts, on Golding's orders, will go to obtain the bracelet. Whilst Frierson and Orwell work to incriminate Harry Winter and Suri discover evidence of past corruption and of the framing of Harry and make an arrest. Anna meanwhile puts herself in danger in her efforts to unmask Golding, whose apparent identity horrifies Harry. Written by don @ minifie-1

In jail Harry finds himself face to face with Golding, who explains his connection to Lermentov and his reason for wanting the bracelet whilst the captive Eve also leanrs the reason for her mother's death. Golding threatens to kill Anna and Daisy unless Harry commits suicide but Harry, helped by Tim Larson and a grudging Rich, escapes and finds out where Golding is holding Anna, Daisy and Eve captive. Now aware of Orwell's double dealings Winter and Suri also head for the house, leading to a shoot-out which will prove whether or not Harry is a lucky man. Written by don @ minifie-1
